Unlocking success with work/life blend

90 day plan mindset success work/life blend Apr 12, 2023

Unlocking success with work/life blend.

Mastering the art of healthy, wealthy and wise and why work/life balance is a myth.

This month we released the updated edition of Fitpreneur - how to be the CEO of your life as well as your business. 10 years ago when I first wrote the models for this book such as Winning Weeks©, the 90 Day Plan and The Vitality Bank©, I coached individuals and corporate teams on reframing the chase for work/life balance.

To instead design a personal and professional foundation that exuded work/life blend. An integrated approach to 6 core pillars of our every day lives

  1. Health and Wellbeing
  2. Admin, work and career
  3. Family
  4. Friends
  5. ME Time
  6. Giving back

Essentially these were part of making sure you created winning weeks, for masterful months and remarkable years.

A decade on and this is still such a core foundation of shifting us from stress to seamless success.

Work/life blend has become a hot topic in recent years, as people seek to strike a balance between their personal and professional lives.

While some may see work/life blend as an impossible dream, I believe that it is not only achievable, but essential for success. In fact, I believe that the ultimate trifecta for success is being healthy, wealthy, and wise - without having to give one thing up for another.

Let's start with the concept of work/life blend.

Traditionally, people have seen work and life as two separate things that must be balanced. But the truth is that work and life are not really separate.

They are intertwined and interconnected. It all forms part of our day.

We cannot be truly successful in one area of our lives if we are not successful in the other. Therefore, finding a blend of the two is what sustainable success looks like.

I like to start this off with micro steps - rather than massive missions. The first step is perspective. Be willing to let old stories and "should do/be" go and set a new vision in play.

What does that mean in practical terms?

It means that we need to find ways to integrate our work and our personal lives so that they complement each other, rather than compete with each other.

This might involve setting boundaries around work hours, so that we have time for family and friends, or it might involve finding ways to bring our personal passions and interests into our work.

Of course, achieving a work/life blend is not always easy.

We live in a world that is constantly connected, and it can be difficult to switch off from work when we are not in the office. But it is essential that we find ways to do so, for the sake of our health and wellbeing. Stress and overwhelm is a multibillion dollar industry. The factor that is most important is self leadership out of old habits and instead designing new basic ones to review and refine as often as necessary.

Which brings me to the first element of the ultimate trifecta for success: being healthy.

Without our health, we cannot achieve anything else. Prioritising our physical and mental health, making time for exercise, relaxation, and self-care is putting your oxygen mask on first.

This might mean taking regular breaks from work, eating a balanced diet, getting enough sleep, and managing stress. Health is your wealth. No excuses.

But being healthy is not just about our physical wellbeing. It is also about our emotional and spiritual health.

Cultivate positive relationships, find meaning and purpose in our lives, and nurture our inner selves. This is not what some may call "woke" it is in fact essential to unlock creativity, productivity and vision.

This might involve spending time in nature, practicing mindfulness, or pursuing creative hobbies.

The second element of the ultimate trifecta for success is being wealthy.

Now, I don't mean that we all need to be billionaires (even if that would be great). But we do need to have financial stability and security. 97% of the workplace surveys I do show some kind of financial stress as a personal indicator for employees to burn out, make mistakes and be distracted as they are worried about their own money management.

Empowering yourself financially, making personal admin just as important as professional admin is vital. I call this #adulting.

Without this, we cannot fully enjoy our lives, or pursue our passions and interests.

A sense of financial freedom empowers us to make better choices about how we spend our time and energy.

Of course, being wealthy is not just about money. Work/life blend constitutes a sense of prosperity by making weeks a more enjoyable picture than waiting for the weekend, holidays or 'gaps in the traffic' to unwind and spend time doing other things that matter as well.

A sense of abundance in all areas of our lives.

This might mean feeling grateful for what we have, and focusing on what we can give rather than what we can get.

It might also mean being willing to take calculated risks and step outside our comfort zones, in order to achieve our goals and dreams.

The third and final element of the ultimate trifecta for success is being wise. What we think about we bring about.

Having a deep understanding of ourselves and the world around us. Being open to new ideas and perspectives, and continuously learning and growing.

It also means being able to make wise decisions, based on our values and priorities.

To be wise, we need to cultivate a sense of curiosity and wonder, and be willing to challenge our assumptions and beliefs. A fear based thought swapped with one of curiosity instead.

Seek out new experiences and opportunities, and be open to feedback and constructive criticism.

We also need to have a sense of purpose and meaning in our lives, and be committed to making a positive difference in the world. Even on a small level at home in our community, our actions have a ripple effect.

If you give yourself permission to replace the chase for work/life balance - with the art of genuine work/life blend - magic happens.

  1. Define what great looks like
  2. Create a 90 day plan on where you want to be by the next 90 days within that bigger goal
  3. Sit down every Sunday evening or afternoon and design your winning weeks©.

Sustainable success is being the CEO of our life as much as it is the emphasis on our business.
